Red Dead Redemption

I was quiet excited to play Red Dead Redemption. After watching a few videos I was dying to step off the train and into the Wild West. What Red Dead Redemption has to offer, in Rockstars latest game is more then I could have ever imagined.

Story:

The story is epic. 1911, the west is dying. You play as John Marston, a former outlaw who left his gang after they left him. Reminds me of GTA 3 how the main character is betrayed and left for dead. Anyway RDR brings all those cow-boy epic moments and packs them together. From bar fights, to catching a wild horse.
If you ever dreamt of becoming a cow-boy, then RDR lets you become one.

Graphics:

Graphics are amazing. Walking up to edge of a cliff and staring out across the vast land is something different. You can see every detail Rockstar has put into this game. A short ride from Thieves Landing to Armadillo and you leave lush forests and damp grass, to a dry harsh land, dotted with cactuses and rocks. Go a little further east and you enter Gaptooth Ridge a dead land with towering mountains and twisted paths flowing through it. The way RS has captured all the best bits of the west and Jam-packed them into one small area surprises me.

When you take your eye off the landscape, you should notice the characters detail. From the scars on John Marston’s face to the beautifully crafted muscles on your hoarse, to the way that bandit was dressed before he got a covered in tomato sauce. To me it’s the details that count and RDR is just a beautiful game to look at.

Gameplay:

RDR has a Gears of War style game play. When taking on a gang hideout, I rushed from cover to cover, popping out my gun to silence a few bandits. The cover system works perfect when you use it perfectly. I found it costly when I jumped into cover and ended up on the side of it, eating bullets.

The gunplay is very different. From cover to cover shoot outs, to epic duels, to performing a perfect drive-by on a hoarse. One strong element in RDR is the Dead Eye. There are three levels of dead eye. Level one just slows down the game. This is useful for hunting down birds. Level 2 slows down time and also lets you set up aiming points which then lets the user shoot a volley of bullets. Level 3 slows down time but also lets you place targets on multiple enemies. Dead Eye makes taking down grizzly bears or large gangs a breeze.

Online:

After watching a free roam video it reminded me of Run escape. You travel around with friends in posse's which sound extremely like pussy. lol. Anyway I was expertly a lag fest but was actually quite pleasantly surprised that there is hardly any lag. Beside the odd flying horse, there aren't many glitches either.

Free Roam is awesome. Travelling with a few mates into a gang hideout is great fun. The completive modes are also really cool. From the classic capture the flag like game mode, capture the bag, to dethatches (shoot-out).

There is also a lot of stuff to unlock and challenges to complete.

Verdict:

RDR is easily the best game that has came out this year (sorry Heavy Rain, MAG and BFBC2 fans) with eye popping visuals, epic game play and a solid storyline, Red Dead Redemption has set the Open World game bar to new heights and is easily a 10 rubber chickens out of 10!!!

SPT Comments

Welshwelder: The free roam is sweet and offers something different from normal and ad’s that extra layer of depth. The SP is epic apart from the odd graphical hitch like flying skunks it's a defiant 9/10 rubber chickens from me.

Axe99: I'm only about 10 hours in, but the scope and quality of this game is phenomenal - great acting, great visuals (there are games that aren't open world that look far worse than this), great game play variety, great gunplay, solid AI, and accessible and varied online - I'm going to have to give it 10/10 Rubber Chickens - I honestly don't know how they could have made this particular game better

Barnhawk: Red dead is a type of game that only comes once in a while and it reminds me of gun.Only 10x better haha. Multiplayer is the bomb and I've only played about 7 hours of online and only 3 - 4 hours of sp...haha but it is very good so far. and graphics are great. 9 out of 10 rubber chickens

Overall SPT Rating: 9.5 out of 10 Rubber Chickens
